[GALLERY + VIDEO]: Booysens Court nears completion
Magistrate court awaits for its first ruling in history.
BOOYSENS Magistrate’s Court is a beautiful state of the art building with neat classic lines which will soon open its doors.
On September 11, Magistrate’s Court site agent Zethemba Dibakwane took the COURIER on tour of the premises informing the COURIER on how secure the building is.
The court resembles state-owned buildings with sliding doors from the first entrance to the court. The building comprises three levels. On the lower ground, the first thing that attracts the eye is the reception area. Access to and exit from the building works with fingerprint scans.

The ground level is accessible to people who are in wheelchairs with stairs and lifts taking you to the other levels.
Dibakwane showed COURIER the admission offices and boardroom which are also in the lower ground with the control room on the far north of the ground.
In the belly of the building, you will find the holding cells section along with a satellite police station where suspects will be registered upon arrival to the court. There are 10 cells of different sizes with a section for juveniles, females and males respectively.

“Staff members have their own store- and change rooms as well as public ablution facilities,” said Dibakwane.
The court comprises one civil, two family, one children’s, a domestic violence and peace order court. On the upper level you find 15 magistrates’ offices, a consultation room, visitor’s room and a courtyard for magistrates. Magistrates have their own parking lot which is well secured.

One of the courtrooms that was shown to COURIER had window screens that separate spectators from the accused and magistrate.
There are 69 parking bays for staff with 54 for visitors and the building project is 99 per cent complete and will soon be handed over.
