New speed humps make Outspan Road safer
Ward 57 councillor is happy now that speed humps have been installed in her ward.
WARD 57 councillor Faeeza Chame can finally breathe a sigh relief after years of approaching the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to build speed humps in Outspan Road in South Hills.
The speed humps were recently completed.
The councillor said: “Although the humps are there now, they came too late, since there have been fatal accidents.
“The humps could not be erected initially because the street is often used by buses. However, with the assistance of Diversity High School principal Mr Maboya and petitions that were handed in, humps were finally installed. In last year’s Integrated Development Planning (IDP) submissions, we requested humps for various streets in the ward,” she said.
The JRA has also installed traffic circles, rumble strips, raised pedestrian crossings and warning signs around the ward.
“I would like to advise parents to encourage their children to use their own yards, neighbour’s yard or nearby parks instead of playing in the streets, as this could put their lives in danger,” she added.
