Scholar transport associations in the South unite

Adam Radebe, executive committee member, said this amalgamation of associations will work because the South will have one voice and be represented in all spheres.

THREE scholar transport associations in the South came together on November 8 to form one association, United Southern Suburbs Scholar Transport (USSST), for better management of the scholar transport.

All three associations, Southern Suburbs School Transport Organisation, Sisonke School Transport and Kibler Park School Transport, met at Southern Suburbs Sport and Recreation Centre in Rosettenville where the guidelines were explained by the USSST executive committee.

Some of the objectives of the USSST are:

• to have direction and speak in one voice;

• to tackle problems faced by drivers and owners;

• to build a legacy for future generations;

• to have safe and reliable scholar transport;

• to get rid of illegal or pirated transport;

• to share expertise; and

• to unite scholar transport to make it more credible.

Adam Radebe, executive committee member, said this amalgamation of associations will work because the South will have one voice and be represented in all spheres.

“There will be no division as we will be united. We are securing our jobs and we will be accountable because every parent will know where to go whenever there are concerns. This association will lead us in the right direction in this industry. We will work together to achieve our objectives,” he said.

There was asked what will happen to those who don’t want to join USSST and what about people transporting their children.

Koki Ncala, executive committee member, said people need to see the advantages of belonging to this association.

“We want to regulate this industry. You must belong to an association to prevent conflict of pricing. Most people who are not in an association do not know the dos and don’ts when it comes to transporting children. We will address those issues here,” he said.

They said every member of the association will comply with the rules of the road and JPMD requirements, they will have a valid driver’s licence, a valid professional driving permit (PrDP), qualification in first aid, qualification in advanced driving, roadworthy vehicles and disc and operation cards.

The community of the South will be informed about the launch of USSST. To join contact Koki Ncala on 011 683 0024.
