Lost his parents but found a loving guardian
Originally from Mpumalanga, Sandile currently resides in Eikenhof. He lost his mother and father when he was two years old.
SANDILE Maziya (22) passed matric in 2017 but thought he would never see the day where he would enrol for tertiary education, because of money concerns.
Originally from Mpumalanga, Sandile currently resides in Eikenhof. He lost his mother and father when he was two years old. He was then taken in by MamGrace Mashaba, founder and director of Amazing Grace Children’s Home.
“MamGrace took me in and provided me with everything I needed as a child. Since I don’t have any siblings or other family, she is all I have,” Sandile said.
In 2004 he came with MamGrace to Johannesburg where he began his schooling in Elethu Ithemba from Grade One to Grade 12.
“MamGrace has been like a mother to me, buying me clothes and seeing everything I needed for my schooling was up to standard.
“But after I finished matric I thought this was the end of the road for me as tuition fees were a major concern. But MamGrace offered to pay all of my fees,” he said.
Sandile is currently studying business management at the University of Johannesburg.
“I will never disappoint MamGrace, I will try by all means to complete my qualification and I will work hard. I only have her in my life. It makes me proud to say she is my mother,” said Sandile.
MamGrace cried when she spoke to COURIER about Sandile and said: “What a special child, I am blessed to have him around.”
Sandile told COURIER that earlier this year the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offered their assistance in helping him with his education. NSFAS has taken over but he’s still grateful for what MamGrace has done.
