World Aids Day honoured by SANCA

THE South African National Council of Alcohol and Drug Dependence (Sanca) hosted World Aids Day at their offices in Rosettenville on November 30.
Sanca saw fit to host such an event to create awareness about HIV and Aids and look at other burning social issues the community struggles with, like substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and unplanned pregnancy.
Michael Crichton, Ward 56 councillor and event opening speaker, said events like these will uplift the community, especially young people.
“Sanca plays a vital role in our community. It is important for people living with HIV to know they can live a normal life like other people. At the same time, it’s also important for people who don’t have HIV to know how to prevent getting it. This event will have a positive effect on our people,” said Crichton.
Information about HIV, blood pressure and diabetes was issued to people in attendance. This information contained how to survive with these illnesses and mechanisms to treat such illnesses.
Lungile Sibisi, a Sanca social worker, said: “It was a good event. Even though the attendance wasn’t what we expected, we managed to pull it through. What pleased me is that some people didn’t know about our office in Rosettenville but now they know about us. People learned a lot more, especially how to treat HIV and Aids.”
