THE festive season is one where most people get to travel – whether it be a local holiday or an overseas trip. But everyone is ready to unwind, relax and ready themselves for the coming year.
Travelling during the festive season is not child’s play. It needs proper planning and budgeting to avoid spending money extravagantly and impulsively.
Some visit their geographical relatives, friends, or family and some travel just for a change of scenery.
But all this does not come cheap.
These tips may help you in your planning:
1. Plan in advance – Pre-planning is key to everything and will give you an idea of whether you are in your budget or not.
2. Choose a destination – Choosing a destination can be somewhat of a hassle if you’re a big family that does not always agree on the same things.
3. Book a safe place – Safety is vital, so check in advance what type of place you’ll be lodging into and the location of it.
4. Decide on travelling mode – If you are going to fly, start checking flight tickets and their availability. Travelling by car? Now is the time to have it checked before the long trip to ensure you won’t get stuck with a break-down during your travels.
5. Clothes shopping – Because the weather changes all the time, make sure you pack something for all kinds of weather.
6. Travelling time – If your choice of travelling is with the car, always opt for late or early-hours departure.
7. Music choice – This can cause some awkwardness on the road because parents will go for the 80s and 90s hits while the children won’t enjoy it. Make a playlist which includes a wide variety of music that suits everybody.
8. Sleeping arrangements – Decide on who’s going to share a room with who.
9. Safety – Always take walks in groups and have emergency contact numbers for the police, ambulance, fire, hospitals, flying squad, etc. Also have each other’s numbers on speed dial.
