AROUND 3am on January 4 learners were already at street corners of Southern areas seeking to buy newspapers to find out what their matric results might be.
Esethu Magaga, one of 2018 matriculants of Hoërskool Die Fakkel High School, told the COURIER she couldn’t sleep because of anxiety as he waited for the results. “It has been a long and hard year for most of the learners but I made it. Seeing my exam number in the newspaper made me feel proud of myself.”
This is what other matriculates of 2018 had to say:
Buhle Ndlovu: “This is one of the days that will forever be in my mind. I was nervous when I couldn’t get a copy of a newspaper but when I finally did and found my exam number in it, I was overwhelmed with joy.”
Rivaldo Martin of Hoërskool President High School said: “I didn’t go and buy a newspaper or register to get an SMS for that matter. I was nervous, scared and worried but that doesn’t matter anymore. I made it!”
Hoërskool Die Fakkel High School’s Lebogang Thabana said: “I always wanted to experience that feeling looking for my name or examination number in the newspaper; it was exciting and wonderful to see my examination number in a tabloid.”
