Author Karabo reflects on his life

The reason for Karabo to put pen to paper was inspired by his life experiences.

TRADITIONAL healer and motivational speaker, Karabo Mogotlane, has published his first book, Karabo – The Answer.

Karabo officially launched his book on March 2 at Southern Suburbs Recreation Centre in Rosettenville.

He was born in Kagiso and grew up in Rosettenville and is the last child in a family of three siblings. The eldest has since died, leaving him with his sister.

Karabo said he fell in love with writing at the age of five, but couldn’t at the time construct a sentence and paragraph logically.

Karabo’s book is inspired by his life experiences.

The book details his struggles as a young boy. He dropped out of school at the age of 16 to become a lay preacher. While working as a lay preacher, he was arrested for armed robbery at the age of 18 and served a five-year jail term.

“My childhood was not smooth sailing. I lived to survive another day but I kept on telling myself through it all I will rise above my tribulations and life’s persecutions.

“That’s why I wrote a book to motivate the young ones that no matter how many hardships life throws at you, don’t give up, rise above it all,” said Karabo.

The book also makes reference to his ancestral calling from being a lay preacher to becoming a traditional healer.

“No dream is irrelevant. We all have dreams. Something that’s easy for you to get or achieve will not be of any sentimental value to you. People should not put an expiry date on their dreams. If I could do it, so can anyone who has a dream,” added Karabo.

Talking to COURIER, he said he did not have a favourite chapter in the book, but urged readers to focus on chapter three which is about a frog’s attitude towards its life. “From the chapter people can relate with their current challenges in modern life,” he said.

His wife, Refiloe, helped him to write the book.

Karabo expressed his gratitude to his wife for making it possible for him to write the book.
