Ashrama hosts yoga retreat as fund-raiser

Ashrama, which has been in existence since 1983, is always in need of funds for its ongoing humanitarian projects.

THE Sri Adi Shankara Ashrama, a Swami Sivananda Yoga and Satsanga Centre situated in Winchester Hills, Johannesburg South, will be hosting a one-day Yoga-Vedanta Spiritual Retreat at the Mondeor High School, on March 17 from 7am until 4pm.

The sacred event also commemorates the 87th birth anniversary of the institution’s first president and illustrious founder, HH Sri Swami Shankaranandaji Maharaj, a direct disciple of the towering saint of the Himalayas – Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj.

The Ashrama, which has been in existence since 1983, and which is a public benefit organisation, is always in need of funds for its ongoing humanitarian, outreach projects intended for the upliftment of suffering humanity, as well as for its daily sustenance as a spiritual centre. The Yoga Retreat serves the express purpose of raising funds for these various activities, celebrating the birthday of its founder as well as promoting the science of yoga, pranayama and meditation based on the sublime teachings of its Divine Master, Satguru Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj.

Cost per person is R200, which includes breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and snacks. We as many families as possible are encouraged to participate as there will be lots of activities lending itself to the development of strong family values.
