WATCH: Local duo puts Rosettenville on the map

The duo is concerned about the lack of support from the municipality, especially for local artists.

ROSETTENVILLE siblings Jimmy (24) and Yamkela (23) Ntuli, also known as Moment Empire, scooped the Best Group Award from City Awards (011 Awards) on June 1 in Braamfontein.

Moment Empire’s music genre is mainly hip-hop and RnB music. They were nominated with 28 other artists, where the public and the judges were involved in the voting process.

“We worked with Rosettenville producer Jimix Beats and being the best group in the City is a great honour. Our music is played on Channel O and SABC radio. Our supporters have been very instrumental in this process,” explained Jimmy.

The duo is concerned about the lack of support from the municipality, especially for local artists.

“We met a lot of artists in this area who are not supported locally. A society with vibrant youth usually works. We need support from authorities in order to prosper and take this form of art to the next level. In other municipalities we see them having showcases of the talent, but ours, nothing is happening,” they said.

Jimmy said he usually engages with young brains in the area. He wants to support and nurture the dreams of youngsters in his neighbourhood.

“The youth needs to find themselves and know exactly what they want to do. They need to have passion and drive, especially if they want to pursue music,” he said.
