Three dead, 11 injured in collision
Three dead following a crash between a bakkie and taxi.
THREE people have been declared dead and 11 injured after a taxi and bakkie collided at the R82 and 2nd Road intersection in Walkerville.
According to ER24, on their arrival people were scattered all over the scene with the bakkie and the taxi mingled into each other in the road.
Patients were assessed by medics and they discovered that three people who were still inside the taxi and bakkie respectively, sustained fatal injuries and nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said 11 other patients were attended to on the scene. Three were found to be in a critical condition while eight others had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
“The patients were treated for their injuries and the critically injured provided with advanced life support interventions.
“After being treated, one of the critically injured men was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital. The remaining patients were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals,” said Meiring.
De Deur SAPS confirmed to COURIER that a case of culpable homicide has been opened and they are still investigating and they are working with other authorities on the case.
