Police confiscate dagga worth millions

Members of the police were following up on information of a white Toyota Quantum that was involved in drug trafficking between South Africa and Namibia

ON October 15 at about 3am, Johannesburg K9, Crime Intelligence and Johannesburg Local Crime Record Centre (LCRC) members arrested four suspects aged between 25 and 41 for possession of dagga.

The members were following up on information of a white Toyota Quantum that was involved in drug trafficking between South Africa and Namibia.

The vehicle was spotted on the corner of Swartkoppies and Potgieter Road, Alberton, at the BP garage.

They intercepted the vehicle and recovered 23 bags containing compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R4.2 million and R52 000 cash.

Four suspects were apprehended and detained at Alberton SAPS and the vehicle was seized as it was used in the commission of a crime.

Joburg Flying Squad communications officer Raymond Sambo said the investigation continues.

“Members of the public are encouraged to continue to collaborate with police by reporting crime and any suspicious persons and activities. Information may be given anonymously by calling the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.

“All four suspects will be appearing soon at Palm Ridge Magistrates Court,” he said.
