WATCH: Local designer brings home lessons learnt in Denmark
It is very important to make sure that the people you surround yourself with are going to help you grow, in one way or another. - Middy Mazenge.
MIDDY Mazenge, owner and creative director of Zidl’ekhaya Crafts based in Kenilworth, returned from Denmark on December 4 after showcasing her craft to the international market.
She was chosen by My Arts International to showcase her work at the SA25 Festival in Denmark and Ukraine, although she didn’t go to Ukraine because of time.
The event was a platform created to showcase art and find better ways to advance economic freedom, social justice and opportunities.
“It was a great experience except for the weather, it was cold.
“In terms of business, I tried to make some sales amid our dwindling rand.
“I am glad to announce that I secured another invite from Norway, although they haven’t formally sent it. But in February I’m going there to showcase my work,” explained Middy.

She mentioned that she always wanted to be on the international stage.
“I had a chance to meet people who are in the same art industry and we shared information.
“Moving forward, I will know what to do. From the Europeans, I have learnt that you mustn’t use coil and bronze in earrings as they might affect the skin, rather use silver or plated gold. The advise I received is invaluable,” she said.
Zindzi Mandela, an ambassador to Denmark, was one of the people Middy met and she said she helped her to make more contacts in the art industry that side. Middy also visited the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

“I would like to thank everyone who supported me on this journey, especially my mother, Zandile Mbolekwa, and Gcobisa Madlolo, the woman who made the impossible possible.
“I can never thank her enough for what she did for me and my brand. Our society needs more people like her.
“Thank you to my family, customers and Facebook friends.
“A lesson learnt is it is very important to make sure the people you surround yourself with are going to help you grow, in one way or another.
“One of the most natural aspects of human life is a need for growth, and our friends and family members are trying to grow as well, but sometimes we are growing in different directions,” Middy said.
