JMPD arrests cable thieves in Turffontein

On Thursday, September 17 at about 05h40, JMPD Operations officers from Region F2 stopped a white Isuzu truck at Amanda Avenue and Rifle Range Road, Turffontein.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, Upon inspection of the truck, officers found railway cables loaded in the back. Officers then called for back up from IIOC Reaction Unit officers and managed to arrest six occupants from the vehicle.

“Officers received information from the arrested suspects of the scrap yard at Ellof and Turf Club Streets in Turffontein, were they sell stolen cables,” he said.

“On arrival at the scrap yard, officers recovered cable connectors and a weighing scale. Prasa technicians were contacted and they positively identified the stolen cables with an estimated worth of R610,200,” added Fihla.

All suspects arrested were detained at Booysens SAPS for railway cable theft and will likely appear in the Booysens Magistrate Court.
