Three suspects were arrested for tampering with essential infrastructure after being found doing illegal re-connection.
On October 16, Security Risk received a call for illegal re-connection in Forest Hill near Turffontein. Armed response personnel were dispatched.
Isaac Mangena, City Power spokesperson, said the general manager of Security Risk Management Sergeant Thela also went to the scene.
“On arrival, we found one of the suspects already arrested. The second and third suspects were pulling off the aluminium service connection from the pole where they were doing the illegal re-connection.
The second suspect approached security officers to negotiate for the release of the first suspect, and was immediately arrested. The third suspect ran to his vehicle and sped off.
“The general manager gave chase and a high-speed pursuit ensued. The suspect got to the N12 east-bound and later changed over to N3 Durban-bound. He drove to Vosloorus and stopped at a nearby filling station. He was immediately arrested with the help of SAPS and transported to Booysens Police Station.
“The trio were arrested and charged with tampering with essential infrastructure. The first suspect had a City Power ID card,” he said.
