“With our first event, we focused on gender-based violence. Next year the theme will change."
Active Youngins Foundation from Rosettenville came together to start an organisation to develop youth through creative arts and culture.
Director of Active Youngins Foundation Onesimo Hamnca said they have three main aims.
“The first would be to provide the youth with a platform that would allow them to express their talent, secondly to provide active skills and thirdly, to create an environment that is safe and learner-friendly,” he said.
He told the COURIER their first event, a beauty pageant, was held at Rosetteville Central Primary School on November 7.
“With our first event, we focused on gender-based violence. Next year the theme will change.
“We want to show the youth we are here to support them. Together we can solve problems, but we also aim to have fun while doing so,” said Hamnca.
He said they are trying to fix the problems of their community one step at a time, one problem at a time. The foundation extended a huge thank you to all sponsors from the Department of Sports Art and Culture, Kenilworth SPAR Main Street, Nkululeko Foundation, Ayanda Films, Aya Spa, Kaleni, Composure, BN Photography, Sdumza Ndaba, Indalo Modelling and Creative Agency, Reason We Dance, Rele MJ Powerhouse and Amazing Property.
“We also want to thank our contestants who showed up since day one of the rehearsals and for delivering the message #NotoGenderBasedViolence,” he said.
“The event was sold out and it was amazing to see the community coming in numbers to show their support.
“Thank you to our community of Rosettenville and congratulations to Miss Rosettenville 2020 winner Siphokuhle Qayiso,” he said
