Author wants to correct misconceptions about same-sex relationships

Author Zandile Cutshwa from Kenilworth wants to create awareness by helping people understand same-sex relationships through her upcoming book called Forbidden Love.

She said although awareness has been raised on numerous platforms, people are still ignorant.

“You find cases where a lesbian is raped and killed because they want to ‘correct’ her or a gay man is also raped and killed for a similar reason. People need to be educated and I believe through this short story I am writing many will be helped.

“I am planning to publish the book at the end of June, should I get a publisher. For now I’m still struggling to finance the project,” she said.

“I have always been writing, although it was developmental. There was a revival of writing when I met a friend who encouraged me to continue writing.

“I started with Facebook stories and that opened doors for me to write further. Eighty writers were selected to write African stories by an organisation called Africa 80 2.0, and I am one of them. We are co-authors selected to write stories on selected titles.

“The book will be launched virtually on Africa Day, May 25,” explained Zandile.
