The crimes in question were committed at different times and separate cases were opened for them at the two stations.
On August 2 a vehicle accident happened in Meyerton after curfew. A suspect was arrested for contravening Covid-19 regulations at the scene of the accident.
The following day this same suspect was visiting a known drug house in Brackenhurst with his girlfriend when his car was stolen from the driveway. The suspect’s girlfriend told the officer she saw the suspect pushing the car away.
On August 5 the vehicle was recovered in Brackendowns and the suspect in possession of the vehicle was arrested and detained at Brackendowns SAPS.
While doing a profile on the suspect it was discovered there was a warrant for his arrest on a theft case at Brackendowns SAPS. The suspect was charged with this matter as well.
When the complainant on the motor vehicle theft matter returned to the station with his girlfriend, the station received information that he was the suspect arrested at the accident scene in Meyerton on August 2, and further that he was wanted by Meyerton SAPS for stealing a wallet from the accident scene.
The investigating officer from Meyerton SAPS confirmed that the suspect withdrew money to the value of R3 000 using the cards in the stolen wallet. The suspect was arrested and taken to Meyerton SAPS.
While this occurred, a female officer at Brackendowns SAPS asked if she could search the suspect’s girlfriend and found drugs in her possession. She was arrested for possession of drugs and detained at Brackendowns SAPS.
During the questioning of the three separate suspects, police found out that all three of them knew about a stolen SAPS uniform. The uniform in question was reported stolen at Citrusdal SAPS.
Police followed up on the information and recovered a pair of SAPS boots and a SAPS pocketbook from Citrusdal SAPS. No arrests were made in connection with the stolen SAPS uniform.
Brackendowns SAPS would like to thank all the SAPS officers, CPF members, CPS Security and Tracker for the role they played in the successful arrests.
