The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department have arrested 10 suspects in one week during Operation Buya Mthetho.
According to MMC for Public Safety David Tembe, These include five males arrested over the weekend of June 19 for Telkom cable theft at Langerman Street and Orion Street, Kensington.
“One male was arrested over the weekend of 19 June for possession and dealing with Nyaope at Church Street and Albertina Sisulu Street, Mayfair,” he said.
Tembe said two males were arrested on the weekend of June 19 for armed robbery and possession of two illegal firearms at Lilian Ngoyi Street and Jubert Street.
“One man and a woman were arrested by officers who stopped an overloaded taxi with Mozambican number plates, on June 15 at Wanderers Street and Noord Street.”
Tembe added that It was discovered that the twenty passengers were undocumented foreign nationals who each allegedly paid R3500 to the woman and R1000 to the driver, for them to be transported illegally from Mozambique to South Africa.
“Officers must keep up with the good work, as he was very proud of their commitment to duty” concludes Tembe.
