WATCH: Kibler Park Secondary honours their term one top achievers

Kibler Park Secondary School showered their term one top achievers with awards and further surprised their head boy and head girl with white blazers.

The Kibler Park Secondary School’s awards committee held a ceremony for the first quarter’s top performers on April 29.

As a token of appreciation, the school surprised head boy Nhlakanipho Bhengu and head girl Thabang Pitso with white blazers as they were the top achievers in the school.

According to the principal of the school, Hosea Maboya, these blazers were to honour them in their outstanding roles as young leaders and to encourage them to strive for more with their excellent marks.

“The aim of this awards ceremony is to encourage, but, most importantly, it is to reinforce in learners’ minds that they are writing to be admitted to universities so they should work hard because the best attempt is always enough,” said the headmaster.

Maboya said that their young kings and queens proved worthy of the event and the stage as they scooped awards in different learning areas.

A grade point average of 80% was required to be eligible for the academic awards.

The institution uses a year plan strategy, where learners are expected to draft their plans for the whole year and submit them to the life orientation educator.

The teacher liaison officer, life orientation and creative teacher Lorato Molepo said that the reason behind this whole initiative is to teach pupils about the importance of setting goals in life and managing time properly.

“Our year planning schedule includes both activities for school-related work and home chores. Some learners follow this plan, and some do not, however, we make sure that we give each learner individualised attention in order for us to reach our targeted 100% pass rate,” said Molepo.

Bhengu said that he felt a sense of being given a responsibility after receiving the white blazer as the head boy of the school because he was put in a position of making some of the decisions that will impact all learners in the school.

He, however, knows that every decision he takes, together with the stakeholders, will impact them positively.

“Having an education foundation helps to formulate your life because this is where you spend most of your time learning skills like discipline, how to manage time, self-actualisation and other important skills that will cultivate your career in the near future,” Bhengu said.

Pitso told the Southern Courier that after being awarded the white blazer as the head girl of the school, she felt honoured, appreciated and valued by the school.

“The reason I pushed so hard is that I saw that the are many opportunities out there through education, which provides me with intellectual and other desired skills to reach my dreams and become a meaningful individual in today’s society,” Pitso explained.

The school achieved a 88% pass rate with last year’s matriculants and is now aiming at 100%. To do so, the school is introducing three new additional subjects in the upcoming academic year so as to make sure that they meet every learner’s needs to accomplish their dreams.

A brick-and-mortar school, complete with an admin block, hall and classrooms for Kibler Park Secondary School, will be built in the 2022/23 financial year and the school will then also have proper grounds and will be able to expand to include more sporting codes.
