Brackendowns SAPS and Brackendowns CPF received information about illegal firearms and ammunition at a house in Brackenhurst.
“Information was given to us about weapons being moved,” said Brackendowns SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Gerhard Cornelius.
The SAPS Brackendowns sector managers formed a task team with the Ekurhuleni district trio task team, the EMPD special task team, Brackendowns CPF, Fox security, and CPS Security.
The task team were dispatched and searched the premises in Brackenhurst.
There were numerous amounts of live ammunition found in the garage, including AK47s, 9mms, and 9mm shorts. There were also 18 tablets of Mandrax found by the team.
“The owner of the house couldn’t give any explanation why he was in possession of the ammunition and he was arrested and taken to the police station for detention,” said Cornelius.
All life ammunition and illegal drugs were confiscated and handed in as evidence.
Another suspect was arrested that day for impersonating a JMPD officer.
According to Cornelius, officers noticed a man wearing a metro police cap in the parking lot of Bracken Square Shopping Centre and decided to investigate.
Upon interviewing the man, he claimed to be a member of the JMPD, but after more investigation, it was found that he was not a law enforcement officer.
The suspect, arrested for impersonating a JMPD officer, was taken to SAPS Brackendowns for detention.
