Maskandi artist Mlethwa Majola collaborates with Zambian Dj Paradox
They are planning to release a new single in December with Jerome Pillay.
In his new album, Inqabakayitshelwana, Booysens’ Maskandi artist Mlethwa Majola featured Zambian artist Joseph Chibuye Phire, aka Dj Paradox.
The 14-track album was released on September 22. Mlethwa said he is trying new things and featuring Dj Paradox was one of them.
“Music can do more in uniting Africans, only if we can be given the chance. Sometimes it doesn’t matter whether you understand the lyrics, the beat will carry you through the song.
“I also like the relationship between our King Misuzulu KaZwelithini Zulu and his Zambian counterpart, Paramount Chief Mpezeni who attended our King’s coronation ceremony. I want that camaraderie to continue hence my collaboration,” he said.
Dj Paradox, who is also from Booysens, is featured on a track called Intandane (Orphan). He said he sings in Nyanja which is also known as Chewa with a mix of Bemba.
“At the end of the time we will all become orphans. Others have one parent and others lose both parents. Remember when you get older it is bound that you will lose your parents. This shows we are one people as we were created by God’s image. This song talks about reuniting people and becoming one.
“In my country, I was a show organiser and a DJ, that’s where music grabbed me. Coming here to study at Unisa was a great thing and I believe we are the pioneer of this collaboration. In Zulu and Zambian traditions we celebrate almost the same,” he said.
In December, together with other musician Jerome Pillay, they are planning on releasing a single track. They said it will be another first where a Zulu Maskandi artist, a Zambian and an Indian collaborate to sing together.
His music can be found on all digital music platforms, especially the new release, Inqabakayitshelwana. He may be contacted on 078 133 6428.
More on Mlethwa Majola

Mlethwa has won two SATMA awards for best newcomer and best video.
He wants support in order to continue working on great Maskandi songs.
With over eight albums under his belt, he is still going strong because his music contains a message for all.
He started in 1998 with a group called Izintombi zikaMajola. He then went solo in 2010 with the album Siyabakhumbula.
Mlethwa believes Maskandi taught him perseverance and love because often this genre has not been popular.
During SATMA awards he was also acknowledged for the most downloaded music. He has done much in his community, including performing, hosting events for children and also motivating offenders in prisons.
He said he is concerned about the lack of opportunities in the South.
