Good conviction received by members at Booysens’ detective branch

All cases went to court where necessary convictions were issued.

The Booyens SAPS management would like to thank its members for obtaining good convictions on cases they were investigating.

Assault case

On January 21 at about 17:45 the members attended to a complaint. On the same night, these members received a complaint about a fight in Crownwood. When they went to the complainant they found a security guard who took them to the fight.

They were able to control the situation but one man continued to fight. The suspect was placed under arrest as he was still hitting one of the people who were there in their presence. The suspect then became aggressive and started to assault the policeman.

The docket was given to Warrant Officer Lebohang Mashaba to investigate. She was able to obtain all the relevant statements and documents and the docket was taken to court.

The suspect was found guilty and sentenced to an R1 000 fine or three months imprisonment.

Violation of protection order under domestic violence case on November 12 to 14 last year, the complainant alleges that she was at a friend’s place when her husband came swearing at her and started slapping her on her face.

Members of the community then stopped him and he left. The husband then came back again and started to assault her. This continued over the alleged period. The last time this happened, she was hit with a pot. The woman then decided to call the police as she had a protection order against him.

The police came and went to find the husband who was drinking with friends close by. He was arrested and taken to Booysens SAPS.

The docket was given to Sergeant Sylvia Malawi to investigate. Once the investigation was completed, the docket was taken to court.

The suspect was found guilty and he was sentenced to three months imprisonment of which three months are suspended for five years with the choice of acknowledgement of guilt or bail treatment of R1 200.

Possession of suspected stolen goods case

On March 2, the members received a call informing them of a suspicious person with stolen items at the premises in West Turffontein. At the premises, they found a suspect that had goods in his possession. He was not able to prove where he had gotten them from. The suspect was then arrested.

The docket was given to Sergeant Patrick Nyadzani for investigation and when all the required proof was obtained the docket was taken to court. The suspect was found guilty and sentenced to two months imprisonment.
