OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games awarded to the City of Ekurhuleni youth
Ekurhuleni youth participated in the OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games and won all the titles in the codes of games that apply within the competition.
Youngsters from the City of Ekurhuleni were crowned the overall winners of the OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games, held at the Germiston Stadium on October 28 and 29.
The purpose of the OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games, which are hosted by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture is to promote a more structured sporting programme at the ward level.
According to Zweli Dlamini, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, this is also done to help communities become healthier and to lessen the social problems that ruin communities, like drug use and teenage pregnancies.
“The OR Tambo Soncini Social Cohesion Games were established from the close historic ties between Gauteng and the government of Regio Emilia in Italy, then led by mayor Roberto Soncini, which provided an exile to OR Tambo in the 1970s,” Zweli concluded.
