False case of hijacking – suspect arrested

The suspect owed money so she opened a false case.

A trio of detectives apprehended a 36-year-old female for perjury at the Johannesburg Central Police Station on January 27.

The suspect had opened a false case of car hijacking. She alleged that her white Ford Figo, worth R58 000, was hijacked by two unknown black men on the corner of Mooi and Prichard streets on August 23 last year.

Acting communication officer Sergeant Constance Lelimo said the on-duty detectives received a call from the complainant. She said she had seen her hijacked car on the corner of Kerk and Delvers streets. On arrival, she pointed out the vehicle.

“The vehicle was occupied by an Ethiopian man. He said the vehicle was given to him by the complainant and he called her by her name. The complainant owed him money (R55 000) and was arrested,” Lelimo said.

An investigation is underway. The woman appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on January 30.

Johannesburg Central Station Commander Brigadier Perumal commended the police’s good work and urged the community not to open false cases.
