It is time to enjoy autumn
The cool autumn evenings and mornings remind us that winter is on its way.
Although most of the indigenous trees on the Melville Koppies don’t turn the beautiful autumn oranges and reds of liquid amber or plane trees, the quartzite rocks and wild grasses give the Koppies its own autumn tinge.
If you climb to the top of the ridges, you’ll see the trees of Joburg’s man-made forest showing their autumn colours.
It’s the perfect temperature for hiking. Do the 5km hike or the 3km self-guided heritage trail, book a guided walk for 08:00, or amble at your own pace on the many paths.
The Koppies are open every Sunday from 08:00 to 11:30. Safe parking is opposite the Melville Koppies entrance at Marks Park Sports Club in Judith Road, Emmarentia. Security on the Koppies is provided.
The cost is R90 a person, R50 for U18s, and season tickets for R500 a year per adult are available. These are not transferable. All income is for the maintenance of the Koppies.
