In a highly anticipated announcement, the Johannesburg City Marathon launched its 2026 edition at the Thaba Eco Hotel on November 13.
The marathon will take place on March 22, 2026, with a range of distances available for athletes of all levels.
Entries are now open, and participants can choose from the 42.2km marathon, the 21.1km half-marathon or the 10km race.

Entry fees:
• Full marathon: R390;
• Half-marathon: R290;
• 10km race: R100;
• Grandmasters (60+): R290 for the full marathon, R190 for the half-marathon;
• Temporary licence: R200 for the full marathon, R70 for the half-marathon

The Johannesburg City Marathon promises to be an unforgettable experience. The challenging yet scenic routes will showcase the city’s best, including the Wits University, the Nelson Mandela Bridge, the Constitution Hill and Gold Reef City.
The race will start and finish at the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve.
The 2026 race shirt was unveiled at the media launch. The first 500 participants to enter the marathon will receive a free race shirt, while other participants can buy one for R180.
From the gruelling 42.2km marathon to the more accessible 10km race, there is something for everyone in the 2026 edition.
