70 suspects arrested across Gauteng

Crime range from common assault to suspected stolen property.

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 70 suspects, recovered 28 motor vehicles and eight firearms from March 1 to 7.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 28 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, fraud, robbery, possession of car-breaking implements, attempted murder, murder, warrant of arrest, domestic violence, rape, pointing of a firearm and possession of suspected stolen property.

Flying Squad media officer Raymond Sambo said 28 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with seven arrests for the possession of these vehicles. Eight unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying seven arrests.

“In further policing 28 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

“Investigation continues in these cases. The suspects appeared in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng,” said Sambo.
