Families name South Hills shooting victims, deny gang links

Ignatius Brown and Luciano Damonds were gunned down on March 30; relatives demand justice and clarity from police.

Ignatius Angelo Brown (31) and Luciano Gabriel Damonds (19) were identified as the men shot on Quantock Street on the corner of Ochill Road, South Hills, on March 30.

Damonds died on the scene, while Brown succumbed to his injuries at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital on that day. Two unknown men shot them.

The family said, “Brown was just a guy working at the FNB and a child of God trying to get by. They were not involved in any gang-related activities. We also still don’t know why they were shot, but there is footage, and it’s not being investigated.

“Damonds was a student doing his matric year and was not related to any gangs in South Hills and Moffat View. The two were on their way to Pick n Pay when they were just randomly shot.”

On the day, the police statement said: “Twelve cartridges and one live round were found on the scene. The motives of the murder are unknown, the suspects are unknown, and there is no video footage.”
