Routine JMPD patrol uncovers suspected drug operation in South Hills
Officers discovered suspected crystal meth concealed in a vehicle and later found chemicals believed to be used in drug manufacturing at a nearby residence as investigations continue.
JMPD Tactical Response Unit officers have made a drug-related arrest following a routine crime prevention patrol in the South Hills area.
The officers stopped a silver-grey Honda Amaze at the corner of Helbron and Steelpoort Streets, where they found one male occupant.
A search of both the suspect and the vehicle was conducted, during which officers discovered a margarine container concealed inside the car.
The container was found to be holding a substance suspected to be crystal meth.
During questioning, the suspect alleged that he had been asked by another man, described as a foreign national, to transport the drugs to the Free State. The suspect was arrested on the scene.
Following the arrest, the suspect led officers to a nearby residence believed to be linked to the alleged drug dealer.
On arrival, the landlord assisted the officers by opening the tenant’s room. Although the foreign national was not present at the premises, a search of the room led to the discovery of chemicals believed to be used in the manufacture of drugs.
Investigations are continuing as officers work to trace and apprehend the suspect, who was not found at the residence.
