Armed crime syndicate busted across southern Johannesburg suburbs
Authorities have disrupted a notorious armed gang responsible for over 35 serious offences in Glenanda, Mondeor, Oakdene, Glenvista and Mulbarton, with two suspects in custody and six still at large.
A major breakthrough has been achieved in the fight against violent crime in the Mondeor and Moffatview policing precinct, where authorities have disrupted an armed syndicate linked to a string of serious offences across Johannesburg’s southern suburbs.
The eight-member gang is believed to be behind more than 35 cases, including house robberies, home invasions, rape and other violent crimes reported in Glenanda, Mondeor, Oakdene, Glenvista and Mulbarton.
The group allegedly targeted families during the early hours of the morning, with a particular focus on properties situated near the local golf course.
According to the director of CPS Security, Tyrone van der Merwe, the suspects operated while armed, instilling fear in communities they repeatedly terrorised.

“One suspect was consistently identified by witnesses as carrying a distinctive gold-coloured firearm,” Van Der Merwe said.
Through coordinated, intelligence-driven operations, CPS Security, working alongside the EMPD Crime Line Unit (CLU) and the Mondeor Trio Tracing Unit, successfully apprehended two suspects connected to the syndicate.
The remaining six suspects are still at large and are actively being pursued by law enforcement.
The arrested individuals are expected to face multiple serious charges as the investigation continues.
Authorities also confirmed that the suspects were found in possession of stolen property, including jewellery and foreign currency.

Van der Merwe commended the collaborative effort, stating that the arrests mark a significant step in removing dangerous criminals from the streets and restoring a sense of safety within affected communities.
Law enforcement agencies have urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity as the manhunt for the remaining suspects intensifies.
Moffat View SAPS station commander, Colonel Shunny Govender, spoke about the arrest.
“Although the arrests were made in Moffat View, the crimes were perpetrated all over Joburg south. Other stations will be involved in the investigation. The suspects are arrested and will face multiple charges,” said Colonel Govender.
Investigations continue as authorities work to apprehend the remaining six members of the armed syndicate and bring them to justice.
