JMPD K9 Unit arrests 2 suspects and recovers stolen vehicle
A high-speed pursuit through Crown Gardens ended in a multi-vehicle crash, with two suspects arrested and a stolen Toyota Corolla Cross recovered.
The JMPD K9 Unit arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla Cross following a vehicle pursuit that ended in a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Xavier Street and Rifle Range Road in Crown Gardens on July 18.
Acting on information from private vehicle-tracking partners, JMPD officers successfully intercepted the stolen vehicle. However, the suspects attempted to evade arrest by driving recklessly through the area, resulting in a collision involving a Volkswagen Polo and a Toyota Etios.
Two occupants of the Volkswagen Polo sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for medical treatment.
One of the suspects was also injured and was taken to South Rand Hospital under police guard, while the second suspect was arrested at the scene.
The suspects face charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and reckless and negligent driving.
The successful operation highlights the continued collaboration between law enforcement and private tracking companies in combating vehicle-related crime.
The JMPD reaffirmed its commitment to reclaiming the city’s streets and ensuring the safety and security of Johannesburg residents through proactive policing and decisive action against criminal activity.
