Gripping classic ‘Amadeus’ takes center stage in 2024 production

Gloucester Productions proudly presents a riveting rendition of Peter Schaffer’s timeless classic play, Amadeus, featuring the acclaimed Alan Committie as Salieri.
This captivating tale of passion, jealousy and vengeance will enthral audiences at Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre in Johannesburg from March 8 to April 7.
Since its Tony award-winning debut in 1979, Amadeus has mesmerised audiences worldwide, including a memorable staging at Johannesburg’s Alhambra Theatre in 1981, followed by an Oscar-winning film adaptation in 1984.

Director Geoffrey Hyland promises a fresh take on this gripping drama, aided by an exceptional production team comprising Illka Louw (costume designer), Tineill Tredoux (costume co-ordinator), Oliver Hauser (lighting), Nadine Minnaar (scenic elements), and Gideon Lombard (sound design).
Committie, a two-time Fleur du Cap Best Actor winner, leads a stellar cast, including Aidan Scott, Lisa Tredoux, Mark Elderkin, Phumi Mncayi, Andreas Damm, Miguel de Sampaio, and Léa Blerk. Committie expresses his excitement to portray Salieri, a character fueled by passion, rage, jealousy, and righteousness.

The production, presented by Gloucester Productions in collaboration with Carolyn Steyn and Siv Ngesi, promises an unforgettable theatrical experience, blending suspense, comedy, and Mozart’s rousing music.
