Deacon Walter Middleton was at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in South Hills to celebrate World Food Day on October 16 by handing out food parcels to those in need.

The members of the Society of St Vincent De Paul, who belong to the church, assisted in the food handout.

Making sure there was enough for everyone.

This act of charity was in celebration of World Food Day, which the United Nations started in 1979.

Middleton receives funding from Grassroots Heroes International (GHI), an NPO from the USA. GHI allocates funds to Middleton and also personally contributes funds to help more people.

He uses the money for a soup kitchen at St Patrick’s Church in La Rochelle, as well as sewing classes. These initiatives are to aid the poor in the south of Johannesburg.

“We have a soup kitchen here at Our Lady of Fatima and one at St Patrick’s Church that feeds those in need around both areas,” said Middleton.
