Cotlands serves up success at festive Padel Tournament

Cotlands is a registered non-profit organisation that focuses on early childhood development with a rich heritage of 88 years of experience in helping young, vulnerable children.

The courts were alive with festive spirit as Cotlands hosted its second Padel Tournament at the Balwin Thaba Eco Village recently.

With players donning Christmas-themed outfits, and enthusiastic cheers echoing across the venue, the day was a resounding success in raising funds for a critical cause.

The tournament brought together enthusiastic players of all skill levels to compete for a purpose. These funds will go directly towards enrolling vulnerable children in early learning playgroups in 2025, giving them the opportunity to build brighter futures.

Cotlands appreciated everyone who participated, supported, and contributed to making this event a success. They said the generosity and commitment to their cause have made a tangible impact on the lives of children who lack access to an early education.

Special gratitude goes to the Balwin Padel Team, whose sponsorship of the courts, prizes, and event logistics played a pivotal role. Their support, combined with contributions from the community, brought this event to life.

Play is important

Nozizwe Dladla Qwabe, acting chief executive officer of Cotlands said, “No matter your age, play is essential for learning and growth. The game of Padel is a great way to develop motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination, just like the educational toys our children use to develop the same skills.

“Playing together in the tournament also provides players with a chance to socialise and connect, much like the opportunity our children have to build social skills with their peers. With the incredible support of our Padel players, we give even more children access to our early learning programmes in 2025 and give them the head start they deserve.”

The players had fun and showed good sportsmanship.

Cotlands is excited about the possibilities for 2025 and hopes to host more Padel events. These initiatives play a critical role in raising awareness for their cause, helping to close the gap in early childhood education and creating equity for children in vulnerable communities.

“Thank you once again to our players, sponsors, and the community for coming together to make a difference. We served up hope for a brighter future for South Africa’s children,” she said.

Looking ahead

Cotlands is hosting its annual charity golf day at the Country Club Johannesburg in Woodmead on February 20, 2025.
