Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue gets generous Christmas donations

Roman’s Pizza teamed up with HOT 102.7FM and Hot Cares to bring some Christmas joy to the furry friends of Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association.

In the true spirit of Christmas giving, the Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association (LCARA) was chosen as one of the beneficiaries of a heart-warming holiday initiative aimed at supporting animals in need.

Roman’s Pizza teamed up with HOT 102.7FM and Hot Cares to spread joy and compassion to some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Who is LCARA?

LCARA is a NPO that feeds, houses and cares for cats and dogs in vulnerable communities.

Based in Johannesburg south, it is a community with a single goal – to assist with the sterilisation of less fortunate animals in and around the Southern suburbs.

A LCARA member, Mark Hydes highlighted: “The LCARA members are always on standby. They do not hesitate to get into their cars at any time, day or night to get an animal to safety.

“Once the animal is rescued, it goes straight to the vet for a check-up and receives medical treatment if necessary. Thereafter the LCARA team will assist with vaccinating, deworming and microchipping the animal.”

The animals also go into foster care or Camp LCARA until the best suitable home been found.

Heart-warming Christmas donations

Roman’s Pizza has ensured that the animal companions feel the festive love. A generous donation of pet food, toys and essential supplies have gone to the animal rescue.

Managing director of HOT 102.7FM, Lloyd Madurai said: “The holidays are a time of joy, togetherness and generosity, and this initiative ensures that no one – whether a person or a pet – is left behind.

“Roman’s Pizza, HOT 102.7FM and Hot Cares share this mission and the goal to uplift those communities who desperately need a bit of festive season joy.”

The generous donations are set to provide vital resources for the rescue and care of animals, ensuring a brighter holiday season for many furry friends. This thoughtful gesture highlights the power of community collaboration and the ongoing dedication to animal welfare during the festive season.

“We love the fact that Roman’s Pizza shares our desire to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children, individuals with disabilities and animals during this special time of year,” said Madurai. “With every act of kindness, we’re ensuring that everyone—whether human or furry – feels cared for, cherished, and embraced by the spirit of the season.”

The rescue association, which works tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate abandoned, injured, and neglected animals, expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of the support from HOT 102.77FM, Roman’s Pizza and Hot Cares.

“We are incredibly thankful for the generosity shown to us this holiday season,” said Hydes. “These donations will make a significant difference in the lives of the animals we care for and the vital work we do.”

The partnership with Roman’s Pizza comes at a time when HOT 102.7FM is well into the Hot Cares Christmas, off the back of the station’s most successful Teddython fundraiser, which saw an incredible R27.5 million in cash, goods and services raised for charity.

Spread the joy beyond the festive season

The rescue group, which operates year-round, is always in need of donations to sustain its operations. Hydes emphasized that the holiday donations, while greatly appreciated, are just the beginning.

With the help of donations, the fur babies are getting a taste of holiday joy and warmth. Ursula Hope and Kevin Chitanga are all smiles about the donation.

“The animals are always in need – whether it’s for medical care, food, or shelter. We are grateful for any support, and we encourage the community to continue helping us through regular donations or sponsorships.”

As the season of giving comes to a close, the Linmeyer Community Animal Rescue Association remains open to further contributions. “Every little bit helps,” Hydes added. “We rely on the kindness of the community to keep our doors open and ensure that no animal is left behind.”

The association is hopeful that the success of this Christmas initiative will inspire long-term partnerships and encourage others to get involved in the ongoing care and rehabilitation of animals in the Johannesburg south area.
