WATCH: Winning mentality helps the Malajika brothers

The brothers will be fighting at Emperors Palace on March 1 and 2 respectively.

The Malajika brothers visited Diversity High School on January 20 to motivate the learners on how to win in life.

Charlton and Ricardo were accompanied by their trainer, Manny Fernandes and fellow pugilist, Carl van Blerk.

Sport organiser for the school Shiko Thantsha welcomed them, saying he was very proud of these boys and their trainer.

Charlton paraded the All-African WBA belt he won when he fought Sabelo Cebekhulu. When addressing the learners, he mentioned that they need to focus and not be distracted by things other than school.

“I came out of the same school from the same area and we all have to move forward. Your parents sacrificed a lot for you. Make them smile – just do something that will make them to be proud of you.

“You need to be goal driven, as the New Year sets it, set goals for yourself and work towards those goals to accomplish them. There’s no better feeling than achieving what others thought was impossible. I fought an undefeated boxer and there were talks that I wouldn’t win, and I did. I don’t care what people say about me.

I use that as my motivation. I never look over my opponents. I trained hard to win and I believe in my skills and talent because we are all born with those qualities,” he said.

His brother Ricardo said he will dedicate his coming fight to Diversity High School. He said he wants to show people that there are champions at the school because he will win the fight.

“Glory to God for how far I came and how far I’m going. My brother will fight after me and it will be a tough week. I believe in him,” he said.

Manny said as the school will start with athletics, they want to help the school, especially with the equipment donated by a company called Adendorff.

Ricardo will fight his role model, Jackson Chauke. It will be a flyweight contest, a division lower than where Ricardo is fighting at the moment.

“This shows character, discipline, and integrity to fight a division lower than your weight,” noted Manny.
