In her keynote address, Xiaoying conveyed ambassador Wu Peng’s festive greetings to overseas Chinese and SA friends, commending TCA’s ongoing efforts in fostering community engagement and cultural exchange.

She also underscored the significance of sustained collaboration in culture, education and community development.

One of the highlights was a marketplace with over 100 stalls offering an array of Chinese and local delicacies, handmade crafts, and speciality gifts. The marketplace showcased leading Chinese car brands such as Chery, OMODA, Jaecoo, Haval, Great Wall Motors, Jetour, Foton and BYD, drawing considerable public interest.

A rich lineup of cultural performances captivated attendees throughout the event. Spectacular kung fu demonstrations, traditional lion and dragon dances, a collaborative musical performance by Chinese and African artists, tai chi showcases, and drum majorette group performances brought to life the spirit of cultural fusion and artistic excellence.

There was also a theme park, helicopter rides, pedal go-carts and inflatables to enjoy. The celebration concluded with a breathtaking 15-minute musical fireworks display by Starburst Pyrotechnics, which left the audience enthralled.

Beyond the festivities, TCA reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment by awarding scholarships to 23 local Chinese students. Among the recipients, Kai Aidan James distinguished himself with an outstanding academic performance in SA’s 2024 matric exams, earning eight A’s with an impressive average of 94.8% and an astonishing 100% in mathematics. He was honoured with the PK Pon best Chinese matriculant award.

The event had added significance this year because it coincided with the recent inclusion of the Spring Festival in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

This recognition further underscores the global cultural value of the Chinese New Year and its role in promoting cross-cultural understanding and solidarity.

The celebration showcased the richness of traditional Chinese culture and reinforced the strong community bonds between Chinese and SA residents.
