Mongezi Ncombo creates live masterpiece at Joburg Open Pro-Am
The Johannesburg artist captivated audiences at Houghton Golf Club with his vibrant mixed-media artwork, a career-defining moment under Spier’s mentorship programme.
On March 4, local artist Mongezi Ncombo brought his talents to the Houghton Golf Club, creating a breathtaking masterpiece during the Joburg Open Pro-Am.
The live painting experience was a career highlight for Mongezi, who specialises in capturing Johannesburg’s vibrant energy and skyline.
Mongezi’s artwork quickly became the focal point of the event, drawing admiration from passers-by.
His signature use of post-it stamps adds a unique touch to his pieces, which blend mixed media, acrylics, and ink drawings.
The City of Johannesburg, in partnership with Spier, provided Mongezi with the opportunity to showcase his talents during the Pro-Am and Joburg Open.
As part of Spier’s mentorship programme, Mongezi’s work reflects the city’s dynamic energy and resilience, aiming to tell stories of ambition, connection, and shared success.
By the end of the evening, Mongezi’s masterpiece had sold for an undisclosed amount, marking a significant milestone in his career.
