WATCH: Rosettenville Seventh-Day Adventist Church commemorates Global Youth Day

The event showcased a sense of community empowerment and the shared desire for positive change.

The Rosettenville Seventh-day Adventist Church held a Global Youth Day event at the JC Lucas Park in Rosettenville on March 15.

The event brought together diverse stakeholders, including the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), Clicks, the South African National Blood Services (SANBS), the CPF and the Moffat View Police Station.

Organised by Thando Mtshizana, the youth director of the church joined the organisations to create a day that celebrated the youth and highlighted important health and safety issues impacting the community daily.

One highlight was the presence of Sipho Hlatshwayo, the CPF vice-chairperson, and police officer Thandi Ngwephe, who shared their insights on combating crime and encouraged the public to be active in crime prevention efforts.

The event also saw a Clicks contribution, with nurses from the Rosettenville Clinic, referred by nurse Nonhlanhla Magwaza, offering health assessments, free glucose and blood pressure testing, and emphasising the importance of regular health check-ups.

The SANBS collected 20l of blood, reminding us of the importance of blood donation in saving lives.

Kgomotso Masikane, a Sanca representative, spoke about the devastating effects of drugs on the youth. She encouraged the community to join in building a centre dedicated to helping those affected by substance abuse, an initiative that received overwhelming community support.

The organisers were thrilled with the turnout and are eager to continue this momentum with future events.

Looking ahead, the church will host a Health Expo at the Junction Mall from 10:00 to 14:00 on March 30.

The event will feature medical missionaries from the church and health professionals from the community to help people learn more about their health.

Additionally, the church collects clothing, shoes, and blanket donations to support the needy.

For more information and donation enquiries, call Thando on 072 587 9994 or Ethan on 074 896 6682.

The successful event is a reminder of the strength and unity in the Rosettenville community and the hope for continued positive change through collaboration.
