WATCH: BASF South Africa and Corinthians Africa unite to uplift community for Mandela Day

From garden revamps to clubhouse renovations, the two-day initiative in La Rochelle fostered sustainability, food security, and social unity through hands-on collaboration.

BASF South Africa, in collaboration with Corinthians Africa, made a meaningful impact for Nelson Mandela Day on July 18 through a community-centred initiative that aligned with its values of sustainability, environmental protection, and social responsibility.

Volunteers from BASF joined hands with Corinthians Africa to clear, cultivate and replant community gardens at the Corinthians FC premises in La Rochelle. The volunteers also refurbished the clubhouse and learning centre.

Sibonakaliso Shabangu, interim managing director at BASF South Africa, said the Mandela Day initiative highlighted the power of collaboration.

“This initiative exemplifies the power of partnership to drive meaningful change,” said Shabangu.

The revitalised gardens aim to become sustainable sources of fresh produce for the community, improving food security and encouraging self-reliance.

Jack Msibi, CEO of Corinthians Africa, expressed gratitude for the support from BASF.

“Working alongside BASF has been instrumental in the development of Corinthians Africa,” said Msibi.

The outreach programme spanned two days, July 17 and 18, and featured a range of inclusive activities such as a soccer match, painting, and garden revamps—promoting community engagement and social cohesion.
