WATCH: Empowered women shine at St Patrick’s Church graduation

Sixty women celebrated completing sewing and computer literacy courses with a fashion show, dance performances, and heartfelt testimonies of how education transformed their lives.

St Patrick’s Church in La Rochelle held a graduation ceremony for 60 women who completed a sewing class and a course in computer literacy on August 11.

The graduates celebrated with a fashion show and dance performances.

Visitors from the Archdiocese of Johannesburg attended the ceremony, including the head of justice and peace, Ntlantla Madinane, and a representative from the Archdiocese News.

Deacon Walter Middleton emphasised the need to enrich people through education.

“Education is a way to help individuals grow and develop themselves. We hope to create a domino effect where these women use these skills to enrich their communities,” said Middleton.

The women gave touching testimonies about the impact of the classes on their lives, highlighting the importance of education and empowerment.

Monique Kushal trained the sewing class, while Illiana Marais trained the computer class. Olivia Kayambi administered the advanced computer class.

GrassrootsHeroesInternational (GHI), a small NGO from the USA, funded the computer course, and the Ryan Foundation funded the regular and computer classes.

All graduates received certificates, and they celebrated the event with a meal.

The graduates were encouraged to pass on their skills to others and continue to excel in their chosen fields. The ceremony was a testament to the power of education and empowerment in transforming lives.
