Turffontein sewing students graduate with pride as GHI-funded programme marks 10 years
Holy Family Church hosted inspiring graduation for GrassrootsHeroes International sewing programme.
The Holy Family Church hall was filled with celebration, song and sewing machines on June 23 for graduation day as learners from the regular (beginners) and advanced sewing classes in Turffontein received their certificates from a programme funded by GrassrootsHeroes International (GHI).
Family members, parishioners, facilitators and invited guests packed the venue, creating an atmosphere of achievement and community support.
The day commenced with an opening prayer led by Deacon Walter Middleton, who thanked God for the talents, perseverance and dedication of the participants.
He expressed gratitude to GHI for providing the necessary funding and prayed for God’s continued guidance and blessings upon the graduates as they put their new skills to use.
The Deacon commended the graduates for their commitment and hard work and encouraged them to continue developing their sewing skills so that they may improve their livelihoods, support their families, and contribute positively to their communities.

The presentation of certificates was a particularly joyful moment.
Graduates from both the regular and advanced classes received their certificates with great pride and excitement, reflecting the hard work invested throughout the training programme.
Their happiness and sense of achievement were evident and appreciated by all in attendance.
A final highlight came when Mary Marietjie, the very first trainer brought to the programme, presented a cake decorated with the number 10 to celebrate 10 years of the sewing classes, which began on June 1, 2016.
Middleton concluded the ceremony with a closing prayer, thanking all contributors and praying for the continued growth and success of the graduates.
