JOHANNESBURG – SASOL National u.23 Wheelchair Basketball Team will go all out at the World Championship which was staged at Adana, Turkey from September 5 to 15.
The u.23 national team had a farewell function on Friday August 30 which was held at Emperors Palace and attended by dignitaries from SASOL as well as the deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation, Gert Oosthuizen where they wished them well for the upcoming world champs.
The team is the Africa qualifiers after winning the qualifying rounds earlier this year at Mandeville Sports Complex playing against the likes of Algeria and Nigeria.
The team is determined to show incredible commitment and will take on the best of the world. Team coach Brendon Dryden is adamant that his team can only get better playing against top International opposition. “This tournament is crucial for us as well as our development towards to Paralympics in 2014.”
Sasol is fully behind the team and believe this is a great platform to groom talent for the national side. “We are delighted to be part of this much anticipated tournament, we hope the team will surpass the target they have set for themselves and that the support for the boys will grow as the tournament fever spreads,” said Sasol Sponsorship Manager Dumisani Mbokane.
At the conclusion of the tournament, a selection of five players from the u.23 team will be made to join the national side. Team captain Kyle Louw currently playing for the national side is excited at the prospect of having his team mates joining him in the squad.
