THE inter-school Kung Fu Tournament for junior martial artists from the Winchester Kung Fu and Taiji Association took place recently.
The students excelled and cleaned up the opposition by taking first position (a gold medal) for the group form.
Gold medallists from the club are: Kitso Mabeleng, Zaydan Patel, JP Nel, and Muhammed Mayet.
A kung fu form is similar to a karate kata and is a series of stances, blocks and strikes practised to simulate real-life martial applications.
The Winchester Kung Fu and Taiji Association, headed by sifu Mark van den Berg, specialises in Shaolin and Jow Ga Kung Fu, joint locks and Taiji and their martial applications.
There are children’s and adult classes and students from the age of six to 80 are welcome. For more information contact sifu Mark on 082 773 8521.
