The Hill High basketball teams thrive under circumstances

More needs to be done at school to help the teams’ successes.

The Hill High School has ended its year 2022 basketball season on a high note.

The u14 boys have crowned champions, while the u14 girls and u17 boys were runners-up in the Summer School Games Basketball League.

Coach Nathi Madubaduba, who is also a business study teacher, said it has been a challenging yet interesting journey.

Most valuable player is a Grade Nine Ephraim Kayembe.

“The learners have shown passion and determination towards the sport and have reaped the fruits of their efforts.

We faced a lot of challenges internally from our school and externally. Some include that learners need to balance their academics and extra-mural activities.

“They competed with some of the best, well-capacitated and facilitated schools like Sacred Heat College, McCauley House and The Deutche Internationale Schule Johannesburg. This means that they need to put in twice the effort in order to remain competitive.

U14 girls came second at the Summer School Games Basketball League.

“One of the biggest challenges is the conditions of our basketball courts. They are in an unbearable state, which makes it difficult to practice and have a home game. I would like to thank our newly promoted principal Thabisa Joka, who came in the beginning of this year but has shown full support for basketball,” he said.
