Southern Stars Baseball Club celebrates historic U10 selections for Gauteng team

Two Southern Stars Baseball Club U10 players made club history when they were selected for Gauteng’s national team.

Southern Stars Baseball Club is celebrating a historic achievement because two young players, Kyle Grieve and Tyler Niemand, were selected to represent Gauteng at the upcoming National Baseball Tournament in Cape Town.

This is the first time U10 players from the club were chosen for the provincial team, a milestone for the athletes and the club.

The national tournament runs from April 1 to 6, and Kyle and Tyler will proudly wear Gauteng colours.

This achievement highlights talents and the ongoing development of baseball in Alberton. Their selection is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the players and coaches at the club.

Besides Kyle and Tyler’s success, Jayden Edwards was selected for the U12 Gauteng team, reinforcing the club’s role in fostering young talent.

Coaches Shaun Niemand and Ryan Kahn played a key part in developing the U10 and U15 teams, and their commitment has been integral to the players’ success.

Niemand said this was a monumental occasion for their club, “The hard work and dedication of our players, coaches and families have paid off, and we are thrilled to see our players represent Gauteng on the national stage. We are proud of these young athletes and their achievements.”

Since the tournament is self-funded, players incur significant travel, accommodation and equipment costs.

Therefore, the club appeals to the community for support to help offset these expenses.

This milestone is a proud moment for the club and signals baseball’s growing popularity and success in Alberton.

“As the club, we eagerly anticipate seeing our talented players shine in Cape Town and continue to inspire future generations of young athletes,” Niemand concluded.
