Seniors keep locals warm

Silwerkroon seniors gathered to present their beautifully crafted beanies which will be donated to various organisations this winter.

To welcome winter, a Silwerkroon trio presented 555 beautifully crafted beanies to be donated to various organisations this winter.

In a project that took off in 2019, the senior residents dedicated their time to knitting colourful beanies which are then donated to organisations that help those in need.

The passionate knitters include Janet van der Merwe, Joey Lategan and Salome Teixeira.

Teixeira said: “We knit every year and it is then given to different entities. We try very hard to get donations for wool but it is not easy. If anybody is willing to donate wool to reach out to more people, we would highly appreciate it.”

She said these will be handed over to Brakpan Gereformerde Kerk, to a good Samaritan from Brakpan who feeds the homeless every Friday, Alberton LewenSentrum and Helpende Hand.

The trio thanked the support received from friends and family towards donating for a good cause.

Should you wish to donate to sustaining the work done by these seniors, contact van der Merwe on 079 711 8091 or Teixeira on 082 685 0851.
