DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club’s weekend programme for August:
On Saturday, 3 August: Palmiet Nature Reserve, call hike leader Philip G on 031-201-3592.
This is a shady walk beside the Palmiet River. Meet at the reserve entrance in Old New Germany Road, below Westville Hotel at 1.45pm. The main hike is 2.5 to 3 hours across the river and a shorter hike of about 1.5 hours along the river’s top section. Afterwards get together at the Westville Hotel. The hike is rated moderate but there is a vertigo warning for the long hike.
On Sunday, 4 August: the club hikes in Cumberland Nature Reserve, Pietermaritzburg. Call hike leader Dave Tighe on 031-464-9033 or 076-028-0708.
This is a joint Ramblers, MBC, MHC hike along cliffs to the bottom of the waterfall and returning via grasslands. Meet at the entrance to the reserve at 8am. Entry is R10 per person. Confirm attendance with Dave. Moderate rating, over a distance of 12km.
