Slain uMlazi man wanted in several cases, confirm police

More than 500 people attended the funeral of a man who was wanted in connection with cases of carjackings and robberies.

POLICE have confirmed that a man who was shot dead in Umlazi and buried at Clairwood Cemetery over the weekend was wanted in connection with several criminal cases, including alleged carjackings and robberies.

Nkosinathi Khanyile was killed on October 3 in Umlazi. However, the police have refuted earlier reports that the deceased was shot dead during an alleged shoot-out with the police.

Police spokesperson Captain Ntathu Ndlovu said the deceased was killed by unknown suspects.

“Umlazi police are still investigating this matter. The individual was a wanted suspect for his involvement in several crimes including carjackings and a string of robberies. He was not shot and killed by police. Reports indicate his killing may be related to his own criminal activities. Investigations into this matter continue,” said Ndlovu.

At his funeral service at the Yellowwood Park Civic Hall, more than 500 people gathered to pay their last respects.

Police presence was deployed as officers from various police stations, including Berea and Montclair, monitored the proceedings.

When the SUN approached the Khanyile family for comment, the deceased’s sister, known only as Londy, declined to comment.
